Rolled Leather Dog Collars: How Hughies Developed the Range

There’s been a fair bit of experimenting at the Hughies workbench. I’d wanted to make a rolled leather dog collar for a while. I love the traditional look, but getting leather to sit neatly around such a small centre took more trial and error than I expected.

After adjusting the measurements and trying different ways to form the leather, I was happy with the finished design: a rounded profile with a flat section around the buckle.

Why choose a rolled leather dog collar?

A rolled collar has a slimmer, rounded shape than a traditional flat collar. It can be a good option for dogs with longer coats, as the narrower profile may sit neatly without flattening as much fur.

At Hughies, the collars are handmade in London from reclaimed leather and made to order. You can choose solid brass or nickel hardware.

I make these collars myself rather than buying finished collars and putting the Hughies name on them. I’ve changed measurements, tried different ways of forming the leather and made adjustments until I was happy with the shape and finish.
