Tie-On vs Snap-On vs Over-Collar: How to Choose the Right Dog Bandana Style
I make Hughies bandanas in three styles: tie-on, snap-on and over-collar. They all do the same basic job, but they sit differently and one style may suit your dog better than another.
If you are trying to choose the right dog bandana style, the main differences are how adjustable they are, how quickly they go on, and how they sit on your dog's neck.
Tie-on bandanas
Tie-on bandanas are the most adjustable. You tie them around the neck, so you have a little more flexibility with the fit.
I like this style if you want a more traditional bandana look, or if your dog falls between standard sizes. Hughies tie-on bandanas also include a small recycled-leather helper loop. You feed one end of the tie through the loop before tying, which helps hold everything in place and makes the bandana easier to secure neatly.
The only downside is that they take a little longer to put on than a snap-on.
Snap-on bandanas
Snap-ons fasten with metal poppers, so they are quick to put on and take off. They are a good choice if your dog does not stand still for long or you just want something simple for everyday walks.
Sizing matters a bit more with this style because there is less adjustment than with a tie-on, so it is worth measuring your dog before ordering.
Over-collar bandanas
Over-collar bandanas slide onto your dog's normal collar. There is nothing to tie or fasten, and the collar itself keeps the bandana in place.
They sit flatter against the chest than the other two styles and are probably the least fussy option of the three.
The important thing here is to check that your dog's collar will fit comfortably through the channel in the bandana.

If you want the most adjustment, go for tie-on. If you want quick and easy, snap-on is probably the best fit. If you want the simplest option and your dog already wears a collar, over-collar is worth a look.
There is no right or wrong choice. A lot comes down to what your dog is comfortable wearing and which look you prefer.
